THE LOGLINE (DESCRIPTION YOU'D SEE ON A STREAMER SUCH AS NETFLIX)
Five horror stories come to life as screenwriters pitch them to a deranged filmmaker -- and only the writer of the scariest story will survive.
THE BACKSTORY
Screenwriter David Page here. I've been banging my head against the Hollywood sign for years now. Written half a dozen scripts that have won awards in top competitions, including the Final Draft Big Break contest (see sidebar).
Then I got an opportunity to write a movie to be made in Baltimore, where I live.
Director Dave Geatty, father of the exec who runs Final Draft, contacted me and said, "I live in the Baltimore area, too. I have filmmaking equipment, plus access to a farm with several buildings and hundreds of acres of woods. How about writing a horror story we can produce here for a low budget?"
The result: a horror anthology feature in which five screenwriters gather for a retreat on an old farm. They're tasked with writing a short film to be shot at this location. As they pitch their ideas, the stories come to life as if produced.
SIX STORIES IN ONE
"Life's a Pitch and Then You Die" is an overall story wrapped around five short stories. They range from eco-horror to terrorized campers.
The overall story ends with a classic Final Girl using a bush axe to battle the deranged filmmaker and his acid-scarred henchman, thus giving horror fans what they crave. Hence the image above. (Final Girls often end up in their underwear, from "Alien" to "Underwater.")
HOW YOU CAN HELP -- OR SIMPLY COME ALONG FOR THE RIDE
Besides being the writer, I'm also the executive producer. Which mostly means: the guy who raises the money.
How much money? Don't know yet. Dave Geatty and I are working with a local producer on the budget and schedule, starting with one of the shorts. Fundraising will probably be through a crowdfunding site such as Seed&Spark.
Whether or not you might want to help fund our endeavor, I invite you to use the contact form below to receive updates on the project.
Prefer to email me directly? I'm at David@lifesapitchandthenyoudie.com.
There's a rich history of independent horror films that are excellent despite a limited budget, thanks to passion and gumption. We're giving it our best shot.

P.S. TO MY FELLOW SCREENWRITERS AND FILMMAKERS OUT THERE
I'd especially love to hear from you. Whether you have advice to share, or my experience may be of value to you in the future, let's help each other.
Won by your writer for the top script out of 10,000+ entries. Now he's making a horror feature.
